NARS Summer 2011 Limited Edition Blush Bronzer Trio Ft.Orgasm, Albatross + Laguna

Oops I did it again...

I'm on a bit of a NARS frenzy at the moment and after having missed out on last summer's LE 'So Famous' set which I still regret to this day I was determined to get my hands on this fantastic trio of some of NARS' most iconic names - Orgasm blush, Laguna bronzer and Albatross highlighter.

My SpaceNK sold out pretty sharpish, so I dashed to John Lewis and although it was a less glamorous consumer experience, I got the coveted palette, for all of £39.

A few people have already mentioned that the packaging isn't ideal as the zipper is fiddly and the material stains.  I would have preferred just the traditional NARS packaging.

I compared the Laguna in this trio to the one on the NARS counter at SpaceNK and I kid you not - they were completely different! The one in the trio is much darker and sparklier - much more like Casino.  The sales girl agreed so it's not just my dodgy eyes!  I'm not sure if they intended to have such a colour difference, but for such a high end brand I would have expected a better degree of colour consistency.  Just something to bear in mind if you are very pale and thinking about getting this palette.

Orgasm
Albatross

Albatross was the only product I'm new to - it comes up extremely golden on my skin, so the white powder if quite deceiving.  It's lovely for a summer glow.

I've whacked on loads so you get to see the effect...

I'm delighted with it and have used it every day since I picked it up.  It's definitely coming on hols with me this summer!

Wherever I go, the obsession comes with...

So the week before last I was on a work trip in the South of France.  I went with a work colleague and we were able to bring our fellas, so it was all good!

I love stumbling across new make up brands when I'm abroad and always make a pilgrimage to Sephora.  We didn't decide to hit up Nice until the final day, so it was a bonus that I actually found a Sephora as Monaco sadly lacks one.

So I was in a the pretty little Italian town of San Remo when I came across a odd shop called 'Coin' which sold just about everything - high end cosmetics, drugstore, clothes, knick-knacks, and I came across this lovely extremely budget brand, Catrice...

I got the lot for €21.05 - bargain!

The products have pretty cool names...this neutral palette - Never Let Me Go! - was only €5.49.  While the shadows aren't massively pigmented, they're along the lines of most MAC shades I've tried.  With the right brush and some primer they work well, and the colours are gorgeous.

I normally don't like buying single shadows as they're too fussy to have lying around, but I had to have Mr Copper's Fields for only €3.29

Pink Grapefruit Shake fed my blush obsession nicely, not bad for €4.29.  I do regret buying it though now as I have a few similar ones...

The best steal were the liquid eyeliners, I got normal black and waterproof.  They are intensely black and I'm loving them as much as my Illamasqua Precision Ink.

The crazy lil' shop where I found these goodies...

Back on the cruise ship, we were treated to a new set of Molten Brown toiletries every evening...I may have just hidden a set in my luggage so it got replaced...You can take the girl out of Ladbroke Grove...

My colleague alerted me to the fact that there was a massive stash of the toiletries in a locked cabinet in our bathroom - the temptation was too much...they really shouldn't have used frosted glass!

I've heard a lot about L'Occitane recently, but never tried anything from them, but our cabin steward met us with a couple of glasses of champagne and canapes and some soaps on a tray, so I plumped for this one.  It was an odd, but very sweet touch!

Do you hear the chorus of Angels?

Actually, I was pretty disappointed with Sephora, and this hasn't been the first time.  I find it horrifically expensive in Europe - €52 for the NARS Blush/Bronzer Trio (summer set) versus £39 in the UK?! Uh, no thanks!  So I just picked up this €4 cheapo perfume to throw in my bag.

Check out this cool pink chandelier in a Nice shopping centre...I'd like a mini one for my bedroom.

Pretty, overpriced soaps in a Nice street market...

So those were my beauty related adventures abroad...I really should have taken some FOTDs and FOTNs but I was on the go non-stop.  I'll probably do a couple of travel, food and maybe fashion related posts on the trip over my personal blog, Portobello Pearls...check it out if you haven't already!

Review: Max Factor False Lash Effect Fusion - Volume + Length

Max Factor's latest offering from their False Lash Effect family is Fusion, which endeavours to offer that somewhat contradictory package of length and volume.

I was kindly sent this last week and have reached for it every day since.

I already own the original waterproof False Lash Effect mascara having seen a friend of mine create the most amazeballs lashes with it - I literally stopped in her in the street and asked what mascara she used.

As you will see, the tube and the wand are basically the same as the original (also the same as Covergirl Lash Blast in the US), so it's the formula of Fusion which differs.  I would definitely say that it's more lengthening, but I wouldn't tag this as a particularly volumising mascara.  The effect reminds me much of my favourite daytime macara - Maybelline Lash Stiletto.  The formula is just the right consistency - no too wet or dry - just goldilocks!

I normally hate plastic wands - I'm a huge fan of the traditional brush (think Lancome Hypnose, MUFE Smoky Lash) - but Fusion's performs just fine and doesn't bother me at all.  I find big wands like Benefit's BadGal a bit unwieldy, as a big wand doesn't necessarily translate into bigger lashes! While Fusion's is pretty big, it's however very easy to be accurate and reach the smaller lashes because the bristles are quite short and taper towards the tip of the wand.

All in all, it's a very good mascara, but on my lashes it delivers more on length than volume, which for me is just dandy.  It's £11.99 at Boots - a bit steep for a highstreet brand - but many of the brands seem to be hiking prices.  There's currently a 3 for 2 offer on so make the most of it!

Ooh La La! What a Sexy Little Thing!

I've never failed to pass by the Victoria's Secret concession at Gatwick airport without picking up a little something....

I was on my way to the South of France, so I of course had to pick a name-appropriate perfume!  I'm already a huge fan of Victoria's Secret Sexy Little Things Noir but I'd resisted the original concoction for years as it smells, in the words of Mean Girls, a bit 'baby prostitute'!  It's incredibly sweet and girly and is definitely more suited to someone in their teens, but I couldn't resist.

I adore the pretty packaging and I love the old-fashioned atomiser bottle.  Notes include mandarin orange, cherry blossom and vanilla. I spritz it on when I'm just knocking about the house and it makes me happy :)

My other favourite VS scent is Pink Wish which I'll review soon.

Ooh La La is £26 for 50mls.  It doesn't feature on the Victoria's Secret website anymore which leads me to believe they may have discontinued it and just be using up the left over stock over here.  If you're keen on sickly sweet scents give it a sniff next time you're going through an airport (VS is at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted as far as I know).
