These bits for sale are from my personal make up collection. They are all perfectly good products but I either have dupes of these or they don't suit me (in my old age I am moving away from bright colours towards a more sedate pallete...)

THINGS TO NOTE

Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipsticks - 90s Rewind with Angel Pink and Burnt Caramel

Frosty baby pink and a brownish nude...ahh, the lippy colours of my early teens! I've moved away from these types of shades nowadays, but it was still fun to dabble with some nostalgic lippies!

Angel Pink is actually very pretty and the frosty finish makes lips look a lot bigger.  I'll be saving this lippy for when I want to work a 1960s look with a thick flick of black eyeliner.

Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick - I got Mulberry!

Despite lacking the colouring and lip shape to pull off this dark plummy shade, I do love the fact it's called Mulberry!  It's shown up a bit lighter in these photos than it actually appears in the flesh.

While not exactly frosted, it does have a pearlised sheen which brings this shade up to date.  I remember being obsessed with a 17 lipstick of a similar colour when I was about...17! I used to pile on the eyes and the cheeks, but this time round I can just about make this lippy work on me with very neutral eyes and cheeks.

Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipsticks - Ruby Tuesday and Pink Brandy Holiday Lips

I took two of the Max Factor lippies I'm reviewing with me to Sorrento and I made excellent choices - Pink Brandy was perfect for day and Ruby Tuesday for night, providing vibrant, moisurised lips all week long.

Ruby Tuesday is intensely red with blue undertones.  You do have to have a touch of the Dita Von Teese to carry it off, but even with my tiny lips I managed to wear it with aplomb.  Anything goes in the Italian sunshine eh?! 

Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick - Everyday English Rose

I've been working my way through the seven Max Factor Colour Elixir lippies Caroline Barnes has challenged us to try and English Rose is my favourite and most moisturing out of the frosted ones.

I wasn't too sure about the colour when I first tried it, but it's really growing on me and I've been wearing it at work quite a lot, so it will be living on my desk from now on for quick touch ups.

Max Factor Elixir - Bewitching Coral on a Saturday Night

Last week Angel from High Heels and Lipgloss and I went along to a Max Factor event launching their new Colour Elixir Lipsticks and Ageless Elixir 2 in 1 Foundation + Serum.  Award winning make up artist Caroline Barnes demo'd two of the lippies you see below and we got to have a play with the new foundation.

I'm going to be trying out these lipsticks for 7 days - one for each - I've brought a few to Sorrento to see how I get on with them there.

I've already tried Angel, English Rose and Betwitching Coral and they are very moisturising but at the same time, have excellent staying power for a lipstick - I find the darker shades almost leave behind a 'stain' which is lovely as it fades evenly.

Review: Max Factor False Lash Effect Fusion - Volume + Length

Max Factor's latest offering from their False Lash Effect family is Fusion, which endeavours to offer that somewhat contradictory package of length and volume.

I was kindly sent this last week and have reached for it every day since.  

I already own the original waterproof False Lash Effect mascara having seen a friend of mine create the most amazeballs lashes with it - I literally stopped in her in the street and asked what mascara she used.

As you will see, the tube and the wand are basically the same as the original (also the same as Covergirl Lash Blast in the US), so it's the formula of Fusion which differs.  I would definitely say that it's more lengthening, but I wouldn't tag this as a particularly volumising mascara.  The effect reminds me much of my favourite daytime macara - Maybelline Lash Stiletto.  The formula is just the right consistency - no too wet or dry - just goldilocks!

I normally hate plastic wands - I'm a huge fan of the traditional brush (think Lancome Hypnose, MUFE Smoky Lash) - but Fusion's performs just fine and doesn't bother me at all.  I find big wands like Benefit's BadGal a bit unwieldy, as a big wand doesn't necessarily translate into bigger lashes! While Fusion's is pretty big, it's however very easy to be accurate and reach the smaller lashes because the bristles are quite short and taper towards the tip of the wand.  

All in all, it's a very good mascara, but on my lashes it delivers more on length than volume, which for me is just dandy.  It's £11.99 at Boots - a bit steep for a highstreet brand - but many of the brands seem to be hiking prices.  There's currently a 3 for 2 offer on so make the most of it!

Max Factor Foundation Master Class @ The Dorchester

Last weekend Angel and I headed down to The Dorchester's Crystal Suite to a Max Factor celebratory tea and foundation masterclass held in honour of the 5* reviews of the Xperience Weightless Foundation on Boots.com.  Max Factor’s foundation expert, Myrna Carlebur gave a history on the man and the development of liquid foundation in the 20th century and then award winning MUA Caroline Barnes gave us a demo of Xperience and Second Skin foundations while talking us through all our foundation queries.

Xperience Weightless Foundation was released in six shades in October last year following extensive global skin tone research and therefore they are all yellow-based rather than pink undertoned.  This surprised me as I adore the lightest shade - 40 Light Ivory - and don't find it looks yellow on my pink undertoned skin.  The formulation is whipped so although it gives medium to full coverage you hardly feel like you're wearing foundation.   Xperience works well on oily skin, which is great for me.  On the second model Caroline applied Second Skin and explained that it suits dry skin textures best.

Caroline used four brushes to apply Xperience, but I find I prefer to use my hands as this warms up the foundation and helps it melt into my skin better, plus the formulation is so smooth it's a doddle to blend in with fingers.

I was colour-matched to a mixture of 40 Light Ivory and 45 Raw Silk (£9.99 for 30mls) , and it's pretty darn spot on as surprisingly for a high street brand their lightest shade is actually very light, almost a bit too much for me!  It's always better to go lighter than darker, on my skin anyway as my neck and decolletage are very pale.

Miracle Touch is still my favourite Max Factor foundation, and I'm all out so I need to buy another.  The trick with it is to apply with a foundation brush, not the sponge that comes in the compact.  Throughout my late teens I used to slater on Lasting Performance - foolish because I had lovely skin and didn't need such crazy coverage! I still have a tube of it and do like to get it out for nights out, but it's much to heavy for daytime.

This is me at the end of the day, a little greasy, but still have some decent coverage.  Definitely in need of a blotting sheet though!
