Pretty in Powder Pink

Why did I only see this little beauty last weekend?! I have no idea when Sleek launched this but it looks like it'll be a happy member of the permanent range.  I'm a big Pout Polish fan and have already swatched and reviewed Electro Peach, Pink Cadillac and the Limited Edition Raspberry Souffle, although I'm yet to get my mitts on the Avoir La Peche LE one!

Powder Pink is £4.19 and is the most gorgeous Barbie Pink which actually goes on a bit neon in day light, perhaps a bit MAC Viva Glam Gaga I, with the same trusty Pout Polish scent and glossiness.  If you're going to be near a Superdrug any time soon check it out!

Squaring up to its older sister and my long time love, Pink Cadillac (PP on right, PC on the left):

Unlike its predecessors, Powder Pink flips the convention on its head and is actually scarier on the lips than in the pot, while for example, Electro Peach looks insane in the tub but relatively tamed on the lips.

Swatched on my wrist:

Now you shall be treated to assorted pouts :)

In bright daylight:

Under camera flash:

The overall effect: I think it makes my eyes a bit bluer...don't know why my schnoz looks ginormous, bad camera angle? ¬_¬

This has joined my handbag makeup bag as a Springtime staple...MWAH!  Have you tried? Do you like?

Mini Review: Carmex Lipbalm - New Flavours

When Carmex launched their cherry flavoured lip balm a couple of years ago I couldn't wait to give it a taste so I was happy to get my hands on the latest mint flavour release.   Carmex's distinctive tingle sensation is even more noticeable with the mint version.

I can be very guilty of neglecting my lips and they chap very badly but the camphor and beeswax in Carmex soothes them and the menthol tingle makes it feel like they're actually being treated.  I find Carmex works almost as well as Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream to heal cracked lips but tastes far better, and is more convenient to lug around in your handbag.  The added bonus is the SPF 15 which is a must for me as I can even get freckles on my lips - not pretty.

I prefer the tube to the pot as it's more hygienic.  The consistency of the balm again reminds me of 8 Hour Cream but it's not as thick or sticky.

I'm sure the strawberry balm is just as delicious as the cherry so I'm looking forward to trying that one too!

Have you tried Carmex? What flavours would you like them to release next? (I'd like to taste a lemon one!)

The best places to find Carmex are Boots or Superdrug for around £2.65.

*products provided for review purposes (but I already owned Carmex original and cherry flavours)

And Then There Were Three!

I picked up the Summer Fruits flavour from Urban Outfitters about a month ago and while I like the novelty factor and how it acts as a good base for lipstick, I wasn't crazy about paying £6 when they're so much cheaper in the US.  However, thanks to Miss Kei Kei  I was alerted to the Urban Outfitters sale and grabbed the Lemon Drop and Sweet Mint balms for £2.99 each.  That's just about what they're worth.  Of course if they'd never gone on sale I would have saved myself £6!

You can read more detail on what the balm is like
here.

Having watched
emilynoel83's Youtube video raving about Lemon Drop and how nice the flavour is I have to say I really don't think any of the flavours are very strong, and Lemon Drop definitely could be more citrus-y.  Sweet Mint is nice, but my least favourite of the three.

Anyway, now I have a full set I am going to learn to juggle! And have very smooth lips!

The EOS Lipbalm Bandwagon

I tracked down this cute little egg- shaped lip balm I first saw Michelle Phan using in her YT videos at Urban Outfitters last week and picked up the Summer Fruits flavour.  They also stock the Lemon Drop and Sweet Mint balms but not the Honeysuckle Honeydew flavour.  At £6 each I won't be collecting them all.

It's not as moisturising as I thought it would be but I like the fact that it is 100% natural and 95% organic.    It's also billed as being Gluten-free, Paraben-free, Petrolatum-free and Phthalate-free which is a good thing for something I have been applying (and inevitably ingesting) a good few times a day.  The Summer Fruits flavour is pleasant and quite subtle.  It contains Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil and Vitamin E and goes on clear.  'EOS' stands for 'Evolution of Smooth'.  It's the ultimate balm for the lazy ones among us, I pucker my lips and swipe the whole thing across in one go!

I used to collect bouncy balls as a child, and this brings me back :)
Will you be getting an egg?

Wednesday

Primark Mini Haul

I headed to the Hammersmith Primark at the weekend in search of the 'mini sactchel' tan bag but they were out, so it's the Oxford Street branch next.  That place is a vision of hell after work, but I REALLY want the bag!  I've never been able to leave Primark without buying one piece of tat or another, but I was pretty restrained this time...
Yummy!
This smells divine and is more glossy than creamy.  I prefer to use it on it's own rather than as a balm as it wouldn't help lipstick stay on.  However, a bargain at £1!

I expected this mascara to be useless but picked it up anyway as I don't have any in a squishy tube. Eyeko have a similarly packaged mascara but I never got to try it before Superdrug discontinued the line.  I think all mascaras should be in squishy tubes as loads gets wasted stuck to the side of a hard tube, like Urban Decay's Primer Potion. The brush is small compared to the trend towards giant brushes in the last couple of years.  The the formulation feels a bit dry and therefore starts to clump after the 2nd coat.  However it holds the curl amazingly and actually looks better in real life than in the photos.  The pictures were taken without any other makeup on to show the full effect of the mascara.  I don't mind a bit of clumping when I've got eye shadow and liner on as long as my lashes look long and full.  It was a bargain at £2.

This facial exfoliating sponge looks exactly like the Boots No7 version (£3.50) but only cost £1 for a pack of two.  I have the No7 one and remember paying something like £7 for it!  A bit of a rip off as it's very harsh on the skin and I only use it once a month if I feel my skin is very clogged.  Don't use it before going out as it makes you quite red!  Surprisingly the Primark copy is much better - it's slightly softer and therefore I don't feel like I'm scrubbing off three layers of skin, but it still exfoliates and refreshes your complexion.

My other £2 bargain was this pretty brooch.  I love still love bows even though they've been done to death on the high street.  I suppose the diamantes will fall out in a week, but there are so many the bling factor will still be high even with a few down! I'll stick it in a sweater for work or one of my light macs.

And finally, my ultimate tat find was this cute kitten matching mug and coaster set - again, £2!  I already have a tea tree of cat mugs, but you can never have enough.  I'm moving in the with the man soon and will bring this cutey with me...I can't leave my mum AND take the cat mugs with me!  Now, I'm off to look for that bag...
What's been your best Primark tat find recently?
