Could Do Better: Umberto Giannini Backcomb in a Bottle

This was one bandwagon I wish I let roll on by... I've tried it out a few times, and maybe I'm not using it right, but I can only get it to work like a hairspray, and an average one at that.  I didn't expect miracles to I lightly backcombed my hair and spritzed it with the Backcomb in a Bottle and this was the result:

It held the volume for a few minutes, and then fell flat.  The smell is horrid - very chemical.  I feel it actually made my hair look greasy at the roots.

Come on hair! Resist gravity! My hair's quite long now, so it may work better on shorter, lighter hair...

Oh hang on...do we have volume?....

Uh, that would be a 'no' then...and in it's place, a lovely white cast to the hair.  Gorgeous.  At £5.61 it's safe to say I won't be repurchasing.

If you want to bump up your hair, your best - and much cheaper bet - is Batiste dry shampoo. This stuff is a holy grail bit of haircare for me and my current favourite version is 'Brit' - it smells lovely and reminds me of an expensive perfume.

Have you had any success with BIAB?

  1. Nope I haven't - and I thought I was using it totally wrongly and the only person on the planet who hated it. Do you ever feel that everyone just feels they 'need' to say it's a good product? That's what I felt with BIAB!

  2. There certainly is an element of following the crowd, but I haven't seen any photographic examples of this product working in the blogosphere, and I follow a lot of blogs. Can't see the point in raving about something that doesn't work as more people will only waste their money on it and beauty companies won't feel the need to produce products which actually deliver!

  6. I tried Lee Stafford Cashmere Cushion for volume-also rubbish! A lot of the gimicky products out at the moment seem to be rubbish unfortunately! Thanks for the warning on BIAB!

  7. @lil miss giggles - glad to see it's not just me then!

@May - If Bastiste ever gets discontinued I think I'd have to go bald! Thanks for following my dear :)

@Robyn - Better to use the £5 on MUA stuffs! I'm using Elnett at the moment but have heard good things about Schwarzkopf got2b hairspray so will give that a try next.

  10. Iw ill stay away from BIAB then, I have heard good things about it...but never seen good things. Will definitely be trying out the dry shampoo though. Have been thinking about buying some for a while but never knew which one to go for. Can you get Batiste dry shampoo from Boots/Superdrug etc?

  12. ahh I bought this too! I heard so many amazing things about it so almost ran to Boots to buy it, and it's rubbish! I think for best results you need to use your comb with it to backcomb your hair. I have the same problems as you but trying to make it work (although I have hairspray which works five times as good!) xx
